Gawura Secondary Scholarships
All of our year 6 students are offered a place in the mainstream St Andrew’s Cathedral School for their secondary education on a scholarship. In 2020 we will have 11 students in secondary school.
School fees are only government funded by a very small proportion of the cost (5%) of this education. Generous donors – individuals, foundations and corporates support students by funding them for one year or for the entire six years they are in secondary school.
Our secondary students receive the support of a full time Aboriginal Education Mentor who works with students to ensure they feel supported at school. Our mentor runs a homework club for students three afternoons per week and students can have additional tutoring if needed, some of which is provided by corporate supporters like KPMG.
Secondary students on a Gawura scholarship attend our annual On Country excursion and our cultural excursions which are held every term.
