Gawura Students visit Canberra

11 September, 2018

In Term 3 this year our Year 6 Gawura students visited Canberra with their Junior School friends. They had a wonderful time.  The highlights of the excursion were:

  • A visit to the actual courtroom of the High Court of Australia where the Mabo Decision was made.
  • Sitting in on an actual appeals hearing in progress in the High Court.
  • The Australian War Memorial and the National Museum of Australia which had an amazing First Australians exhibit.
  • Questacon was a hit with both Kayliah and Torey doing the free fall activity, and of course we visited the nations Parliament House and saw both the House of Representative and Senate in progress. We saw the original written apology that the ex-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd delivered to the nation in February 2008 when he was in office.

It was our students first time visiting Canberra where they learnt many things about democracy and they had a ball.
