Izak, our first Gawura K-12 student

30 September, 2019

Izak is our first Gawura student to have started in Kindy and complete Year 12. He has been supported by some very generous donors during his time at school, and by his family. Everyone at Gawura and SACS was very pleased to celebrate this milestone.

Izak has loved being an Indigenous Ambassador and the ‘voice’ of Gawura.  He has also loved the interested people he’s meet during his time at school, like the Duke & Duchess of Sussex.

Izak hopes to study medicine at UNSW and would like to be a Cardiothoracic surgeon, and would love to work in Indigenous communities in South Australia which he is from.  His other passion is around breaking Indigenous stereotypes.

‘Attending Gawura gave me a unique opportunity to learn about my culture and through the support of donors I have been given such a good foundation to launch me in life.’

Everyone at SACS and Gawura is very proud of Izak. He has grown into an excellent role model and we’re grateful for his willingness to help and for the all the times he has just popped into Gawura to play the didg for the students.

We’ll miss you Izak!
