Morning Reading Program
Volunteers are invited to be a part of our Morning Reading Program:
The reading program for Kindergarten to Year 6 students commences every morning at 8am for 40 minutes. Volunteers are required to listen to one child or children in small groups read to help with difficult words and comprehension.
If this is something you or your company would like to be involved in, please contact us now.
We’d love to have you join us. Our program runs each weekday morning over two sessions. Our volunteers usually commit to reading at least one day per week for the school term. The reading program makes an incredible difference to lifting the literacy levels of our Indigenous students and also provides them with a wonderful opportunity to meet people of all ages and from all types of backgrounds who are committed to supporting their education and their future.
Our next intake for volunteers will be for Term 3, 2019, the week beginning Wednesday July 24 and ends Friday September 27 (10 weeks).
Before commencing new volunteers are required to complete the following;
1. Provide a current Working with Children Check Clearance Number
2. Application for Volunteering
3. Volunteer Code of Conduct
4. Read the Gawura Volunteer Program Booklet
5. Attend a 1 hour Induction Session
Once the above requirements have been met volunteers are required to attend an induction session at St Andrew’s Cathedral school.
