Our wonderful panel of speakers are:

Amy Thunig. Gamilaroi woman. An associate lecturer in the department of educational studies at Macquarie University, and PhD candidate. Amy is the host of the podcast, Blacademia, as well as a freelance media writer for publications such as Buzzfeed, The Guardian, Junkee, IndigenousX. In 2019 Amy gave a TEDx talk on ‘Disruption is not a Dirty Word’.  Amy was co-winner of the ANZSOG-sponsored Emerging Female Leader in Government or Public Sector at the Women’s Agenda Leadership Awards.

Thomas Mayor. Torres Strait Islander man who was born and raised on Larrakia Land in Darwin. Thomas advocates for the proposals in the Uluru Statement from the Heart, and has published two best-selling books about the campaign. ‘Finding the Heart of the Nation – the journey of the Uluru Statement towards Voice, Treaty and Truth’ and a children’s version, Finding Our Heart. Thomas will visit SACS and Gawura on Friday 20 November.

Michael Kirk. Gamilaraay and Ngarabul Man.

Michael graduated from UNE with a Bachelor of Education after serving on the University Council and Academic Board.  During his time there, Michael established the Indigenous Students Council to provide student advocacy on behalf of Indigenous students.  Michael is currently the year 3 and 4 teacher at Gawura.
