Cultural Dance Lessons

4 May, 2021

Thanks to our generous donors, and with funds raised at the Gawura cocktail party in March, Gawura students started dance lessons this week with Matthew Doyle.  Matthew is a descendent of the Muruwari Nation.  He is a dancer, professional musician, composer, choreographer, cultural consultant and educator, with a passion for passing on language.

Matt is a cultural consultant for Bangarra Dance Theatre and his art has taken him everywhere from the top of the Opera House, to multiple Olympic Closing Ceremonies.

Matthew’s company Wuriniri Music & Dance, has professional First Nations musicians and dancers who create and present both contemporary and traditional performances.

We’d like to thank all of our donors who having given Gawura students the incredible opportunity to have these dance lessons each week this term.

The lessons will culminate in a special performance at the NAIDOC Week assembly on Thursday 17 June.  Save the date!!
