Gawura Fundraising Cocktail Evening – 25 November, 6pm
25 November 2015
Bringing Balance to Education in Australia!
We’d be delighted if you would join us for our Gawura Christmas Cocktail Fundraising Evening, exactly one month before Christmas!
For those new to Gawura, ‘a school within a school’ for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, Gawura is the conduit through which Indigenous children are given the opportunity to navigate through 13 years of an engaging, culturally enriching education in a high performing school. Gawura provides students with the foundations they need for a fulfilling life. Creating happy, balanced young adults with choice in life and a platform for future Indigenous leaders for Australia are just two aims of the programme.
Your support on the evening will assist Gawura in providing scholarship funding for our existing students and new students to the programme. Funding covers tuition, uniforms, books, IT equipment, excursions, meals and more. Donations to the ‘Gawura Scholarship Fund’ are tax deductible. Your support and your voice will join our existing group of supporters passionate about securing a brighter future for Indigenous youth and bringing balance to education in Australia.
Gawura was established in 2007 by St Andrew’s Cathedral School which, itself, is celebrating its 130th year this year – one of the oldest schools in Australia.
On Wednesday 25th November we will provide you with fabulous insight into our programme and the opportunity to engage with our wonderful Gawura community including much loved Gawura Ambassadors Pastor Ray Minniecon and Professor Larissa Behrendt – as well as our very first cohort of Gawura students to graduate this year! We have an excellent line up of speakers including Indigenous Sky News Journalist Stan Grant (whose dad created the first Wiradjuri dictionary in Australia which our students use) and comedian David Callan, our secret MC for the evening who used to work for ASIO!
Don’t delay – book your tickets, dust off your Christmas outfits and prepare yourself to relax into the Christmas spirit with our Gawura family and friends!
