Gawura on the ABC for NAIDOC Week

16 July, 2019

Did you know that of the 160 different Indigenous languages spoken in our households today only 13 of them are spoken by children?

This year, as part of NAIDOC Week, the ABC have featured Gawura to highlight the importance of speaking Indigenous languages in the home. Studies have shown that children who speak an Indigenous language at home tend to be healthier – both mentally and physically. They are also more likely to gain a post-school qualification and become employed.

Please have a watch and see how much our children love learning the Wiradjuri language.
