NAIDOC Week Assembly 2020

10 November, 2020

Due to Covid restrictions, this year’s assembly wasn’t open to the public.

But, we have recorded the whole thing along with some special messages from Gawura staff and pupils to share with you.

We very much miss having all of our families, friends and the Gawura Community celebrate NAIDOC Week with us in person.  We hope you can watch it soon if you didn’t get a chance to watch it live.

Gawura’s Week NAIDOC assembly is a celebration of culture and pride featuring:

  • A performance of The Man Shining Like the Sun– the Gumbaingirr Creation Story with permission from Gumbaingirr local Elders Aunty Julie Long and Uncle Michael Jarrett.
  • An original song, ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ . This newly commissioned work by Marcus Milton, was written in consultation with our school’s Wiradjuri and Gamilaraay communities and with permission from Gadigal Elders.
  • A special blessing from Aunty Esme Timbrey, Bidjigal Elder and world-renowned shell artist.
  • With messages from our founder, Pastor Ray Minniecon and John Ralph and Dr John Collier.
